Microbursts are intense downdrafts which in the center may be as strong as 6,000 feet per minute.
When you enter an microburst your aircraft will experience a sudden increase in performance because of the headwind, but it will be followed by a strong dwondraft at the microburst center and then a severe loss of performance as the downdraft becomes a sudden tailwind.
Since the initial headwind may be 50 knots and the tailwind also 50 knots, the total wind shear passing across the microburst would be 100 knots.
An individual microburst will almost never last longer than 15 minutes from the time it strikes the ground untill dissipation.
